We take it back to 1960, where the Bills started life as a charter member of the American Football League. After the merger in 1970, the club joined the National Football League.
The 1970s saw drafted running back OJ Simpson become the face of the franchise; however, that appeared to be the only positive to note. The team was placed in the AFC East with the Colts, Jets, Dolphins, and Patriots and saw them win only three games in the whole of their first campaign.
The following year, things went from bad to worse for the Bills who ended the year 1-13. 1973 saw the Bills first winning season since joining the NFL and it also saw the Rich Stadium built - an 80,000 capacity arena that still houses the Bills to this day (although renamed as the Highmark Stadium).
Positivity flooded the Bills in 1978 when the team made the playoffs, eventually losing to the Super Bowl champions, Pittsburgh Steelers. From 1978-83, further positive seasons unfolded for the Bills, including their first victory over the Miami Dolphins in 11 years, and two further playoff runs in 1980 and 81, losing to the Chargers and Bengals respectively.
In 1984 Chuck Knox left his coaching position and running back Joe Cribbs moved to the USFL. Financially, the bills were in trouble and with crowds dropping below 30,000 the future sure looked bleak. Things did not improve during 1985, nor did the 2-14 losing record held by the team, a collapse looked imminent.
Thankfully for the Bills, that collapse was not in Buffalo but of the USFL in 1986. During which, the Bills managed to acquire a great depth of talent, including QB Jim Kelly, C Kent Hull, LB Ray Bentley, and HC Marv Levy, amongst others. After the strike in 1987, Bills went 12-4 and finished top of the AFC East - the first of four consecutive seasons! Unfortunately, they fell short on the road to the Lombardi trophy time and time again.
In 1990 the Bills changed to a no-huddle offense, leading them to a 13-3 season and one of the highest-scoring seasons of all time (428 points). By 1992 the Dolphins had regained their position atop the AFC East; however, that did not stop the Bills from making their way to yet another Super Bowl final, falling heroically at the final hurdle once more. 1993 would see the Bills head to their fourth straight Super Bowl, losing once more to the Cowboys, 30-13.
1994-97 saw a rather bleak era fall over the Bills - soon rectified by the unveiling of two new star QBs. 1998-2000 was all about Flutie and Phillips, as well as two impressive positive campaigns and two rather uninspiring playoff runs.
Between 2000 and 2016 the playoffs would be nothing but a distant memory. This period was also mixed with the return of Marc Levy, a 41-7 victory over the Chiefs, the death of the previous owner Ralph Wilson, and new ownership under the Pegulas. 2017 saw the first playoff run in 17 years fall at the hands of the Jaguars. During the season, QB Tyrod Taylor and RB LeSean McCoy led an effective run-first O, before 7th pick Josh Allen emerged as the starter in 2018. The bills may have ended the season at 6-10 but things were slowly starting to fall back into place.
A clearout was needed by 2019 to free up cap space, which was soon filled by WRs John Brown, Cole Beasley, and Andre Roberts, C Mitch Morse, and RBs Frank Gore and T. J. Yeldon. The season ended with a playoff run, losing to the Texans, despite leading 16-0 in the third.
Diggs, Butler, and Addison joined the roster in 2020 and tied a franchise record of a 13-3 season. Playoff wins led the Bills to the championship game against the Chiefs, falling short at the last hurdle. 2021 saw the Bills head to the playoffs again after adding Trubisky as a backup to QB1 Josh Allen, the team went 11-6 before falling to the same fate as the previous year - losing out to the Chiefs. Based on past form and after taking a closer look at the roster, we expect another positive season to be on the cards for the Bills.
History lesson over - let’s get down to business! Before you can even consider diving into the world of Buffalo Bills betting and hoping to uncover the best Buffalo Bills odds today, you need to understand the differences between the various betting markets. Get your pens and pads at the ready - things are about to get interesting.
The Bills moneyline is the simplest and most straightforward wager across any NFL betting sites. The moneyline will always focus on the Bills game today, meaning that you should be paying particular attention to any last-minute news, team sheets, and injuries, before finding the best Bills odds today.
When placing a moneyline, you will be selecting who you believe will be the winner of the matchup. You will find that one team has been chosen as the underdog (+), the other selected as the favorite (-). We have presented a real-life example below.
In the above example, you can clearly see that the Bills have been chosen as the favorites. The number that follows the minus (-) highlights how much must be wagered in order to win $100. For those backing the Bengals, you are seeing what it is possible to win should you stake $100.
Another popular Bills betting market is the point spread. This particular type of wager is very similar to the moneyline, in that you are choosing a winner; however, the two teams' odds will be much closer as a handicap has now been placed on each team.
In the above example, you can see that the odds are now the same across the board. Players will now select who they believe will win with the added handicap. Those who choose to bet on the Bills will hope that they win by 8 points or more. Those betting on the Bengals will need the Bengals to lose by no more than 6 points.
The Over/Under, or totals, market looks at the combined total of points scored throughout the match. Here, bettors are not required to wager on the winner. Instead, they are required to wager on whether the match will see over or under a set number of points once 80 minutes is up.
In the above example, you’ll want to pay particularly close attention to the Jets and Buffalo Bills stats. If both appear to have a high-scoring offense, then it may be worth going over 37.5. If both defenses have proven strong, then it may be worth looking at under.
Assuming you’ve wagered on the NFL before, then we have no doubts that you will have seen all the Super Bowl fun bets around, including the color of the Gatorade, whether the coin toss will be heads or tails, and so on. Well, the same kind of bets are available to wager on throughout the season, too. Although, the collection isn’t quite as extensive.
Instead, you’ll be able to wager on things like Buffalo Bills players scoring the first touchdown, how many times the Buffalo Bills picks, sacks, and fumbles, as well as just about any other event that occurs throughout the game - provided it doesn’t directly affect the outcome!
As a quick example, you could wager on Stefon Diggs scoring the first touchdown in the game against Washington. With these sorts of bets, a deeper understanding of the game is generally required.
Futures are interesting types of bets that don’t rely too heavily on the news. Instead, you’ll want to pay attention to Buffalo Bills rumors, as these bets are placed long in advance. Generally, you’ll be placing these sorts of wagers on who the Buffalo Bills draft, whether a Buffalo Bills playoffs run is hopeful, or if you think that they can lift the Lombardi trophy.
A quick example of a Bills Futures bet could look like this:
You don’t need to be a statistician to know that betting on the Bills isn’t always as straightforward as it first may seem. Thankfully, you now have an understanding of the different types of wagers you can place and when they are most effective. Next, let us explain a few other considerations for you to take into account before securing those all-important Bills odds.
According to the latest figures, Caesars is the number one choice amongst New York residents to date. Based on our latest review of the popular sportsbook, it would appear that our editor also believes that Caesars is the best place to play across New York.
Caesars was one of the first four online sportsbooks to launch across the Empire State and it has wasted no time in cementing itself as the leader of the pack. For those who are new to the sportsbook, a $1500 100% deposit match bonus is currently on the cards. All you have to do to unlock it is make a minimum qualifying deposit of $50.
Once you've taken advantage of your welcome bonus, plenty of ongoing promotions are available to loyal returning customers. However, the most impressive attribute of the promotions page has got to be the Caesars Rewards program. The Caesars Rewards program works very similarly to all other rewards programs across the state, offering bettors points for their wagering activity. Once enough points have been accumulated, they can be used to unlock betting credits, exclusive dining experience, and much more. Another perk to the Rewards card is that bettors can use it online or at a retail casino - a bonus, not all online sportsbooks share.
Bonuses aside, the wealth of betting opportunities available to Caesars' users is astounding. Earlier, we discussed the ins and outs of moneylines, prop bets, futures, point spread, and more, and you’ll be pleased to hear that all types of betting of markets are available at Caesars. It is also worth noting that they are all backed by some of the best pre-match and in-play odds around the state, too.
We expect you’re now wondering what types of sports you can wager on? Well, based on our latest review of the Caesars NY sportsbook, it may be simpler to tell you what you cannot wager on!
Sports betting just got a whole lot simpler, too, thanks to the intuitive tech that features on one of the best betting apps NY has to offer. Caesars acquired William Hill in April 2021 and wasted no time in implementing the great technology that William Hill was synonymous with across their very own platform. Now, NY bettors looking to get the best bills odds around can enjoy some fantastic platform fluidity, a great stream of popular markets, an impressive signup bonus, and join one of the best rewards programs across the state. What more could you ask for?
